G2D Game Development Plans (A Late Night Post)

We've been preoccupied with a lot of stuff (that you don't care about) lately, so I wanted to take the time to create a post dedicated to our game development road map, mostly because I don't want our followers to fall under the false impression that we took our creativity and projects, murdered them and shoved them under the floor board on the bathroom tile. As with pretty much everything we do, we don't have a clear plan  as to how we're going to approach all of our game development projects, we just toy with notions and repeatedly obsess over ideas until something seems decent enough to attempt to create. We're don't have a vivid hologram projector thing that hands out flattering complements every morning while it makes us coffee and tells us how to organize our lives and goals (those run for about 1350$ on Amazon if anyone's interested), we just start stuff and do whatever we can to motivate ourselves to finish said stuff.
Oh....oh....no...no...no...SNAAAAAAAKE! Alright I'm good for another two hours of  programming.  Remember children, this is why we study history.


     Anyway, strictly concerning game development, the survival horror game is still in progress (and buffering), but we are taking a short break from that to create an Easter(ish) themed game that runs on the same code structure we're using in our main project. We're cutting out a lot of visual details and special environmental effects and other things of that nature so we can finish this sub-project as soon as possible. Hopefully it will attract a bit of attention so that our main focus project will receive a bit more attention when we finally release it (date for that is obviously pending, because we actually don't even know how we're going to structure the game as a whole. The prototype will be made available long before the full game is complete, just as originally stated, and we hope to receive as much feedback as possible [positive or negative, go easy on the negative or you might get hurt (parthenthetiception{I made a word. I wonder if anyone has ever actually had to structure they're writing like this.})] ). We won't be keeping this "Easterish" themed game chained up behind closed cement doors like S.I.D. p, so expect a screen shot or two in the near future. Like The Crab Crusher, both of our current game projects are being developed on TGC's AGK engine (heroic people indeed). We'll most likely be publishing it to Indievania for Windows and Android, although we may consider distributing it on other stores as well (obviously we would let you know if we decided to do that, but you can always use the "Apps/Games" tab at the top of the page to look over our current/ completed projects).

This isn't a screen shot but it's from the game and it's all you're going to get for now, but it's more than likely that you really don't care whether or not you see a screenshot. So whatever. If you see an egg like this in the market, pick it up off the ground, put it back on the counter and immediately leave the swap-meet so you don't get arrested for vandalism (darn you, putting the freaking egg down on the counter to hard in my mental imagining [very different from my physical imagining{Let's face it, if you had a chance to do this twice, you'd be in my position. But if you were in my position, you wouldn't care. So everything reconnects in the end. Except for the freaking servers in Carnivores Cityscape. If you've got problems with those you're pretty much our of luck.}]). 

Anyway, it's getting pretty late, so if what's being generated from my finger tips at a fairly rapid pace progressively makes less and less sense to you, it's probably not your fault, but let's just blame it on you anyway. Concerning future projects, we're considering a remake of Deer Hunter 2, an original hunting game (a bit more serious than cow hunting), a sequel to Cow Hunting, a fishing game, an adventure game, a fighting game, and a couple other survival horror games. If I wasn't so tired and I actually had anything interesting to tell you about those ideas, I would, but....yeah. A perfect conclusion to a sentence if I do say so myself. But I don't so who cares. Anyway, the adventure game would be sort of a mix of our own ideas with inspirations from the original Devil May Cry games, The Legend of Zelda series, the Sonic The Hedgehog series, Shadow of the Colossus/ Ico, and most likely a bunch of other stuff. We generally like to take ideas from several different sources, blend them together in interesting ways, and then use that product as inspiration for our original creations. If you've watched any of our Burnt Banana Sandwich short films, you've seen this first hand. 



This game inspired us to consider potential ways that we could create a survival horror game consisting of or influenced by short, scenario based challenges. A project such as that would most likely not be started until our major focus project was 100% complete though.

One last thing before I roll off of my chair and fall asleep on the floor. The Game Creators recently released a poll asking App Game Kit users what features they would like to see in the next major update, what platforms they would like to be able to port their games to, etc. One of the two options was the Ouya(probably butchered that, but I've already used violence as a metaphor, so I don't want to beat a dead horse. [darn it {HeheheYES!}] ), which I think most people were expecting based on the fact that the console's developers basically said "hey indie devs, how are you doing? (to which you tried to respond but were abruptly interrupted by the resuming of this paraphrased quote) Here, take this magic box and make your dreams come true." I probably exaggerated that last part quite a bit, and there definitely shouldn't be quotes there, but the back space key is all the way over ther . No that wasn't a typo. Any way, from what I understand, the Ouya was meant to be a very modifiable device that's perfectly suited (more or less) to support indie game developers of all sorts, so I highly recommend that you hunt down the poll that TGC sent out and mark the Ouya "very important" or whatever the highest option was. The other platform option on the poll that immediately caught my attention was the Wii U. I'll try not to go into a lot of detail, but if we could start getting some of our stuff to function with the Wii U's tablet controller, we could start doing a lot of cool stuff (technically, we could start doing a lot of cool stuff right now, but the Wii U [and the Ouya, no I won't do the bracket thing] would allow for significantly more interesting stuff, depending on the game, situation, and application of course).





So, just a small summary of all the text I just half-consciously whipped out of my finger tips like a wizard (if that wizard was about to face plant and abstain from standing up for the next hours), we're taking a short break from our main game dev. project to create a small game that show cases (essentially) a "bare-bones" version of what our major game will function like. Also, we hope to be able to develop for the Wii U and Ouya eventually using AGK, and we're considering several different projects that may succeed the two we are currently focused on. When the time comes to start a new project, we'll do our best to listen to the opinions/ answer the questions of any viewers we might have that were not driven away by the length of this post or the nonsensical nature of my textual voice at 1 in the morning. Anglerte's Soundtrack of the Week

This one is pretty nostalgic as well, although not nearly as much as last week's. It's possesses a sort of hybrid tone: a sense of preparation for pending adventure while stilling maintaining a relaxing nature. We got this game the same day we got Carnivores: Cityscape, so my brain automatically associates the two whenever I hear the soundtracks from or play either.

Devil May Cry isn't exactly known for its soundtrack. Don't get me wrong, it's fitting for the games and it's not bad, but it's not one of my favorite soundtracks by any means. DMC4 is the exception here, with (in my opinion) the best soundtrack in the series.

Update with Anglerbe: Link to the Past Sequel, My Zelda Timeline Theory, etc.

It's been a little while since I've made a post, or a video at that. (Well, two weeks or so, to be more specific). In any case, I've felt that based on that coupled with the fact that a handful of recent announcements have been made calls for a speculation/analysis update. Or something like that. Anyhow, I guess I'll divide this into sections for convenience. Krab. Spell check functional. Let's begin:

Capcom DMC and RE6 Sales Expectations Still Dropping:
Didn't see that coming. I can't imagine what went wrong. So long as Revelations does well when ported to consoles (and I believe PC as well), I hope Capcom gets back a bit of sense and makes the appropriate reparations. Meaning if it ain't broke, don't fix it. As in, the presence of guns in a game does not make it a shooter. And retconing well liked characters will not help the situation. That goes for Devil May Cry as well. Unless you do it to RE5 and 6, which is probably a good idea. I could go on for a long while with this, so I should probably move on now. 
A Link to the Past Sequel Announced:
Well Porpoisemonkey would probably enjoy this if any of us at G2D actually owned a 3DS. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled anyway. Its a very interesting idea, and it helps me to expand upon my timeline theory(which I'll get into later). This new Zelda game appears to be a throw back to the top-down, 2D games which haven't been made since Minish Cap (although I suppose Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks had a handful of top-down elements). I don't doubt that this will draw in fans of those, so long as they can acquire a 3DS by the time of its release. 

More Nintendo Announcements: 
In addition to the ALTP sequel, Nintendo announced quite a few other games, several of which I would think would be better suited on the WiiU (which we also don't own yet, I should point out). These include Mario Party, a new Mario Golf, a new Yoshi's Island, and Newer Super Mario Bros Wii U. Except for that last one. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with a surplus of Mario games so long as they're good, and don't fall to the yearly-sequel-death-trap cycle. Moving right along.

My Zelda Timeline Theory:
I was not made aware of the Zelda Timeline official release thing until fairly recently because people don't like to tell stuff to me. Anyway, looking at the timeline for way longer than a sane person probably should gave me the idea that, further down the road, the timeline may take the shape of something. Like, say, a sword. This new Zelda game fits into the left-most timeline, which I admit I thought was not going to expand any further. Especially considering that the most recent game chronologically in that timeline was Zelda 2, not A Link to the Past. But I guess we'll learn more about that later.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger:
I don't have a whole lot more to say at this point, but this game is still looking pretty good. While the lack of a multiplayer feature is very disappointing, the game still has massive potential. Not to mention that a reasonably priced DLC(or better yet, a free update) could solve this problem. 

Gamed2Death Console Stuff:
We've been debating which consoles to get and which to steer clear of, and so we decided that at some point in the near future we will do a segment comparing and contrasting the pros and cons of upcoming and current consoles. These include the WiiU, PS4, Xbox720 420 Nextbox I have no idea what its actually going to be called, Ouya, Piston, and Apple iJoinedConsoleDevelpmentBecauseIWantToTakeAChunkOfThisMarketBySuckeringInCasuals. I hope that last one isn't true. And it would be interesting if Sega made a comeback. 

Other Stuff We at Gamed2Death Want to Do in the Near Future:
Man these headings just keep growing. I don't know if we've mentioned it yet, but a demo game displaying our survival horror game engine made with AGK is in the works and should be done within three months if all is as usual with our scheduling. So look forward to that. We've also been looking into new capture cards and microphones, and if we manage to acquire some of these, we intend to try to do some streaming. We would like to use streaming to record Let's Plays and other videos when G2D members aren't able to get together. This would increase our video output significantly. I recently purchased a small audio mixer so we can record with multiple microphones at once, meaning our audio should be better when the necessary parts arrive. Which is about 20 days from now. I can hardly contain my excitement. 

Well I think that's all for now, although I will probably prove myself wrong soon enough and update this post. Or make a new one. I don't really know right now. Anyhow, we hope to put out more videos soon, and work on both our survival horror game and the demo game continues. Let's Make Porpoisemonkey Play: Resident Evil REmake Part 1

I'm going to use this post as an excuse to ramble about various topics that I feel should be mentioned even if they aren't entirely relevant. Or I might not. I opened the blog knowing there was some stuff I wanted to talk about, but I didn't actually lay out any mental plans that systematically organized they way I would present the information in text form. Oh well, the first thing that comes to mind (now that that's out of the way) is the new freaking Youtube design.

I was really hoping that this was going to be some sort of sick and twisted April fools joke (it would have been pretty rich I do admit), but then they came out and tried to convince us they caught a fatal case of the stupid and were going to delete all of our videos. They really didn't do a very good job of convincing anyone (I would hope, but I guess there's a good chance someone somewhere believed it.) But just anyone out there was starting to get excited about winning something shiny, I decided to whip this video together, with my own personal time and effort. Your welcome.

Anyway, the new design looks pretty inconvenient all around, but the organization of the home page stands out more than anything to me. Everything just seems much more cluttered and overwhelming (not in an exciting way, either). The lack of color schemes and background images makes the whole thing seem dull and tasteless, having playlists shoved in your face instead of recent uploads and featured videos is just stupid,      the banner and icon placement is ugly, and the basic information ("about") section is shoved in the back and fairly disorganized and difficult to scan over. It's just ridiculous as a whole. Their priorities are the complete opposite of what they should be; all the junk almost no one cares about is slapped on the front page and the information that should be immediately accessible, including overall views, subscribers, and featured channels  in buried in the back, under the last tab. Yes, even featured channels are in the very back, making them almost useless. How many people are going to dig through channels they're on just to find other related channels? Maybe if they really really really liked someones channel, they may consider looking into their recommendations, but beyond that, using the featured channels section as a form of advertising has pretty much been made an extremely inconvenient and essentially obsolete practice. I'm not sure if you can readjust the default page to suit your preferences, but it really doesn't matter. Google is trying to turn Youtube into some sort of wanna-be social network (not a useful, entertaining, and convenient one like it has been, but one for extremely casual and personal use [for lack of a better way to describe it] like the video section of Facebook). I just really don't like the direction they taken the whole thing in. Google needs to stop trying to bring Plus into Youtube. They're separate and they should stay completely separate. 

Moving on, the Nostalgic Games. We haven't been able to resume this segment with Porpoisemonkey because we haven't been able to do much of anything with Porpoisemonkey lately, but we'll try to resume and complete this segment as soon as possible. The Same goes for our Silent Hill Let's Play, which, as any of my Youtube subscribers know, we recently continued.

We might be getting a Wii U in the near future, but I'm still not too certain. If we do, I'll probably make a video asking viewers what games they would like to see gameplay of and other stuff of that nature. If you have any recommendations concerning Wii U games or you have anything to say about the console itself, please do leave a comment in the comments section. If nothing else, we would probably get it for the Resident Evil: Revelations port and the ports of some of the best Gamecube games there were(obviously Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine, although I have mixed feelings about the latter). Hopefully they'll expand their library of Gamecube ports as the console progresses, but I'm interested in seeing some original stuff as well.

Also, if anyone could like this video, I would very greatly appreciate it. 15 likes means I get to beat up Porpoisemonkey on camera. He agreed to it. Well, he didn't say anything against it. That I heard...
