Custom Cases for Your Retro Collection

*zips pants up, looks around, leaves without washing hands*

Oh hey! Didn't see you there.  *cues rap beat* Y'all ready for a new dance?

The name's Stevie Jay, and I've got to say, that
this is the most exciting thing that you'll do all day.

You step to the left,  then you take one back,
then you step to the right and grab a snack.

Take a game
start to play
and that's how you do the Stevie Jay.  (repeat from second verse 3 times)

Okay *breath*, now for my official greeting; Hello. Cutting to the chase, I've recently acquired the urge to clean and sort my N64 games on shelves, because well, they're dirty. Some of dirt and ink (from when your mother wrote the title of the game on the top so you could locate it when they're vertically lined up in a drawer) were nearly impossible to get out, but eventually the cleanliness prevailed on these cartridges. Due to the fact that they ARE cartridge and not disc based games, I looked into storing these games a lot safer than just lying on a shelf, and my only conclusive result was to buy custom made cases from retro gaming websites, or places like Amazon or eBay in bulk packaging.

The cases themselves look great if you're a video game collecting guru, or if you just want a few for your favorite games, and are for a wide variety of retro gaming systems like N64, SNES, or Genesis. I being an N64 game collector found the cases intriguing because the N64 games came in cardboard and were thrown away 90% of the time (again, by your mother). They actually offer 3 styles of box art for N64 cases: horizontal, vertical, and japanese.

 Horizontal

(remains faithful to the original box)

 Vertical

(box art is rotated to the left, compressed, and placed in the center. Also note the difference in the spine from the horizontal case)

Japanese

(you know how those japs luck out with everything??? well looks like we get a slice of that cake)

I guess you could say I'm advertising http://www.retrogamecases.com/ because I'm planning on purchasing mine (when I get the chance) there. They charge $9.79 at retrogamecases each, but the upside is that the shipping is free and they offer plenty of coupons to lower the prices.

So yeah, that's the"exciting" news update (if got bored, cried, or fell asleep in anyway after reading this, please scroll back up and read the lyrics to my dance song). As a closing message,  If I do order one, I plan on making a video review containing my personal impressions, the "fall test" (where I drop it off The Empire State Building and see if it's still in one piece after impact), and the Stevie Jay dance.

With all that said, I bid you farewell

Anglerbe's EVEN MORE SPECIAL Update

Hey guys, Anglerbe here. Unlike SOME people, I have been on here (somewhat) frequently. Remember that Comparing Carnivores series I started back in Summer 2012 and never finished? No? Well I'm still going to finish it. Primarily because the first one got me over 30,000 views. But in any case I should really finish what I've started here. I'm considering uploading it to our new channel, in order to boost the sub and view count on it, and, more importantly, the knowledge of its existence.

P.S. get out of my bathroom Steven.

Sound Effects of the Now (lol probably won't have anymore)

So I'm browsing eBay, Amazon, and YouTube, looking for specs, prices and what not on a Rush 2049 arcade machine (first time I ever made this announcement, but I'm planning on buying a Rush 2049 machine when I find one for cheap cause, why the hell not?!?) when I come across this unusual video. Not only do I find it rare (not Rareware guyzzz) because It's hard enough to find high quality audio on such an underrated title (audio is unique to arcade), but also, who ever posted this collection of voice samples also credited said sayer(I made up that word). With that said, I say that you should listen to this video so you can say that I said, I told you to say it to someone that has not said what has been said by the sayers.  Like I said, I bring to you: The Voice Behind Rush.

(p.s. hey tyler *snickers* wouldn't it be cool, if like, we use these, in some videos he,hehe,he...)

(p.s.s. This video is so underground that I couldn't find it in the youtube search thingie that Blogger uses.)

(ps.s.s. Julio sends his regards)

(ps.s.s.s. ........... *walks to bathroom, unzips pants*

(pssssssssssss.......)

Anglerbe's Soundtrack of the Week

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening

Dante's Office 7 Hell's Battle

Demon-slaying badass mode engaged. Especially in context, I can't think of a better track to fit this theme, and the same is true of the inverse. It's not quite as fast-paced and scream-metal-whatever-it's-called as some of the other combat tracks in the DMC series, but this (relatively) slower pace actually gives the track a kind of intensity boost. It goes very well with the corresponding cutscene, in which Dante sacrifices the well-being of his new office for some stylish demon destruction. So go on and grab a slice, and dish a few out while you're at it.

G2D 60 Second Reviews: Star Fox Adventures for GCN

Anglerte's Soundtrack of the Week

Star Fox Adventures

It was the similarity between the voices in this track and the voices in the "Mystic Ruins" theme in Sonic Adventure that drove me to address both in corresponding posts. And good thing, because I'm falling way too far behind with these. Unlike the soothing and inspiring emotion reflected by the Sonic theme however, the percussive sounds which compose this track completely alter the mood into one that is far more suspenseful and action-driven. The ethereal sense undoubtedly remains present, but it is overshadowed effectively enough so that it may claim originality. The Ice Mountain theme reminds me in many ways of the Carnivores dinosaur hunting series, probably because a very similar theme was played (subtracting the singing) over Carnivores 2 installer, which, for those familiar with all three, renders it needless to say that the "Mystic Ruins" theme was not so successful in doing, thus confirming significant dissimilarity. Still, I can't help but feel that the composers used the exact same "tribal singing" sounds. Fortunately for both games, the addition of these voices is an admirable and effective thing, especially for the implying of  exploration and desolation. Say what you will, I think that Star Fox, Zelda, Sonic and Zelda went together quite nicely in some respects.

Anglerte's Soundtrack of the Week

Sonic Adventure DX

This mysterious and otherworldly theme benefits the game as a whole with a strong sense of intrigue and depth that wouldn't necessarily have been present in its absence. Not only is this one of the most memorable themes from the game (until I replayed this game around a year ago, this was one of only two themes that I could recall with some degree of vividness, the other obviously being "Open Your Heart") Specifically, the glamour of the jungle area and the story of the echidna tribe are amplified significantly, to the point where I was driven to explore the Mystic Jungle as thoroughly as possible, even when made fully aware that the proceeding mission was located elsewhere. The fact that I have no idea what the strange voices are trying to communicate certainly works to absorb my curiosity, but end the end, I think it was the application and context of the theme that allowed it to impress me so thoroughly and successfully as it did and does. For better or worse, no other track in a Sonic game has come even moderately close to reproducing a similar effect.

Update 10/20/2013: Some stuff, Plus Steive Jay Reviews on Wiki'd2Death

Anglerbe here. I actually don't have a whole lot to say, other than we are going to attempt to finish some of our long-ongoing Let's Plays in the near future. Hopefully that works out. On another note, G2D member StevieJay has lately busied himself with writing some reviews for our Wiki, I suggest you check those out. I'd like to say that Anglerte and I are getting a WiiU soon, but the odds of that are relatively slim. Lately, we've been working on projects for Filmed2Death, if anyone is interested in those. I'd like to say that I'm going to finish Comparing Carnivores relatively soon, but who am I kidding with that? Well, I think that covers everything I wanted to say for now. Have a nice day.

Anglerbe's Soundtrack of the Week

Silent Hill 0rigins

Far From Rescue

I'm fairly sure that this one plays when you are attacked by the otherworld version of Plastic Man (follow this link for more on that), but even if I'm wrong about that, there's no denying the panicked sense of insanity that it instills. A handful of the tracks in Origins seem to have tribal qualities (reminding me a bit of the Forest Temple from Ocarina of Time), specifically the beats, and I think this works effectively to create a kind of threatening atmosphere. You get the sense that you're being attacked by... something. Which, (in)conveniently, you are.

I have a lot of catching up to do. I don't know when, but we'll try to make up for the lack in someway or another. Until then, we'll try to do anything within reason to avoid leaving the G2D blog and YouTube channel in absolute desolation. Enjoy the substantially useless list!

Welcoming a New Gamed2Death Member

The Gamed2Death team would like to welcome their newest member, A Potato (AKA Kiera). She will be joining us in coming Let's Plays and the like (granted, we've been a little slow in posting lately due to busy schedules, and that probably won't change too much any time soon).

G2D 60 Second Reviews: Checkers for Atari 2600

One of the new video segments we've been contemplating, Anglerbe was the first to actually transcribe the idea into a physical (or digital) product, and here are the results:

Soundtrack Of The Now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRbhp37vOec

Holy crap, I love this track. It's one of those rare delicacies of audio you hear in a game, in fact, you only are required to listen to this song once during the entire game! All that aside, I love every part of this song, the bass (that does not drop of course), the tempo is a nice touch as well, because it kind of builds you up so that you're ready for the finals. The most spine tingling of the song of all however, is that guitar solo. I swear, I get chills every time I hear it. Oh yeah! this song is so good, that I wrote my own lyrics too:

Yo, dis iz stevie, jay

talkin bout nothin' but playin' the game

with julio (noah), and we totally aint gay

but even if we were, there'd be no shame

cause we really, really tight.....     yo

I got other julio on my side

his name is noah and he's just in time

to hear me rap about the real iglesias

cause we both know that he miss us      yo

You gonna try to be rude to me?

you think all we do is sit and play

well let me be clear, I'm the one, I'm the only one

who is famously known as, stevie jay

So think next time you strike a mess

cause' you'll regret messin' with me, after our fight

I got julio, and julio on my side

and I'll make sure I beat you, before my flight

(repeat 120 times)

Anglerbe's Soundtrack of the Week

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Final Battle With Ganon
***POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT***
If ever there were a perfect track in a video game, this would be the one. Hands down, the most epic (and I don't like to throw that word around a lot) final boss theme in any ever known to mankind. And maybe even a few extraterrestrial species. In fact, I would argue that its the best final boss period, if not for the incredible decrease in difficulty once you discover the tactic. The atmosphere is perfect, if a little cliche; stormy and thundering, dark, surrounded by a wall of flames. Rather than extremely face-paced and (for lack of a better term coming to mind) hardcore, this track chooses the route of slow and yet indescribably, goose-bump inducingly intense. If this battle is lost, it means the end of the world. Ganondorf is one of the few villains in the Zelda series that doesn't overestimate himself, and that makes it all the more intense. In case you haven't noticed, I love this boss, music and (almost) all.

Stevie Jay's Update Video and Some Other Stuff From Anglerte

Stevie Jay (Steven Jerep) took the time to make an update video thing, and I like mooching off of other people's stuff to make myself look like a more frequent and creative poster, so I'm putting it on the blog. Win win win situation. Unless you don't like the video, then it's a win win lose situation. But I win either way, so I'm indifferent to your satisfaction.

But in all seriousness on my part, I think it's cool that one of was finally able to make a simple update video of this sort, and I've been pretty busy with school lately, but I'll try to do some cool stuff when I get a chance. Well, cool from my perspective.  You might just find it nerdy. And if you do, remember, I don't care what you think, so everything is fine.

No but I'm pretty sure we all have some new stuff planned (I'm almost certain I do) for G2D/ F2D and YouTube, so hopefully someone will be looking forward to that. Anyone? No? No one at all? Alright then. Anyway, I'll also try to finish up the stuff I started over the Summer in the near future, mostly referencing Silent Hill Origins and Star Fox Adventures, but a few other things as well. Thank you for your time!
