Anglerte's Soundtrack of the Week

Star Fox Adventures

It was the similarity between the voices in this track and the voices in the "Mystic Ruins" theme in Sonic Adventure that drove me to address both in corresponding posts. And good thing, because I'm falling way too far behind with these. Unlike the soothing and inspiring emotion reflected by the Sonic theme however, the percussive sounds which compose this track completely alter the mood into one that is far more suspenseful and action-driven. The ethereal sense undoubtedly remains present, but it is overshadowed effectively enough so that it may claim originality. The Ice Mountain theme reminds me in many ways of the Carnivores dinosaur hunting series, probably because a very similar theme was played (subtracting the singing) over Carnivores 2 installer, which, for those familiar with all three, renders it needless to say that the "Mystic Ruins" theme was not so successful in doing, thus confirming significant dissimilarity. Still, I can't help but feel that the composers used the exact same "tribal singing" sounds. Fortunately for both games, the addition of these voices is an admirable and effective thing, especially for the implying of  exploration and desolation. Say what you will, I think that Star Fox, Zelda, Sonic and Zelda went together quite nicely in some respects.
